CHINESE NEW YEAR OF THE WATER RABBIT
This year will have much more calm and docile energy than the fierce Tiger of 2022, those strong and hostile forces brought about a lot of change and we are now ready for some rest. The charming Water Rabbit prefers negotiation over force, which enhances relationships, community, and cooperation.
There will also be good fortune beyond just monetary - think general contentment and comfort. But those that are resourceful will have an easier time bringing in luck as there are some energetic roadblocks.
✨FLYING STAR CHART OF 2023✨
This will be a Peach Blossom year ruled by the auspicious number four which flies to the center. This chart also offers a big improvement in stability over last year, where the central five brought about a lot of change and uncertainty in 2022. Four, the dominant star of the year represents romance and wisdom so alliances and scholastic luck will be improved.
Relationships are the feature of the year, and people will cooperate with new connections and partnerships. Compared to last year which was ruled by power struggles and conflict, this will be a welcome change in finding new ways to work together. Four also enhances creativity and broadens the mind, so if you are considering a new line of study, this is a great year to embark on that journey.

DOMINANT STAR #4 IN CENTER
The Green Star #4 rules relationships, romance, love, and scholarly endeavors. Overall, there will be an improvement in relationships and cooperation instead of competition. FUTURE PROSPERITY STAR #9 IN NORTH
This is the luckiest star as we are approaching the new period of 9 in 2024. This star brings promotions and success, especially for those living in North-facing homes, or homes with the bedroom in the North. Enhance the North sector with the Fire Element.
VICTORY STAR #1 IN SOUTHWEST
Activating this crucial star brings promising new opportunities and winning energy, especially for the matriarch of the family and those of the Monkey and Sheep signs. AFFLICTION STARS
ILLNESS STAR #2 IN EAST
The Illness Star 2 has flown to the East in 2023. It is especially crucial to remedy this sector to preserve health if your home faces East, if your bedroom is in the East, or if you are of the Rabbit sign. Drain the affliction with Metal Element, and avoid facing East for long periods if possible in 2023. Your bed or desk may need to be realigned to accommodate a new facing direction.
QUARRELSOME STAR #3 IN SOUTHEAST
This star can increase arguments and disagreements, especially in SE facing homes, or homes where the bedroom is in the SE. The Dragon and Snake signs are also more afflicted. Take care not to let small disagreements get out of hand, and keep pathways clear of clutter for improved communication. If you have fighting doors in this sector, ensure that you open them in a peaceful manner. Drain with Earth or Fire Elements, and avoid Water and Wood, especially this year.
5 YELLOW IN NORTHWEST
This misfortune star causes all kinds of problems, especially for the Pig and Dog signs, for those with NW-facing homes, or with a bedroom in the NW. Avoid any renovation in this area for the year. Keep this area as quiet and clean as possible to prevent illness and bad luck. Cure with Metal, especially an animal figure or talisman.
LOSS STAR #7 IN NORTHEAST
The Metal of the 7 is amplified by the NE Earth sector, so this year it has an unfortunate amplification. The Tiger and Ox signs, and those with NE-facing homes should take extra care with this sector. This star can also enhance the powers of intuition. Remedy with Water Element to avoid monetary loss and betrayal.

In general, the elements are a bit unbalanced. There are no Metal or Earth elements present this year which represents a lack of resources and power. There is a lot of Water that enhances growth and wealth, but minimal support from necessary resources can bring challenges. Those that are inventive and adaptable will prosper, so be open to quickly change course if needed. There are good rewards available to those who are hardworking and diligent.
The self element of the year is Yin Water. It will be much easier to find success through cooperation, communication, and supporting each other. This is the year for collaboration rather than competition.
Health is of concern this year - imbalanced elements indicate improper nutrition could be a problem. Make sure to take extra care with your diet and supplements to keep your energy and health at a high level.
Yin and yang are in much better balance this year, creating a more grounded and stable energy that is less impulsive than 2022.
The excess of Fire energy can cause cash flow issues, so take precautions with your accounts. The Wood and Water bring lots of creativity and new ideas, but again, you must be resourceful in how they are carried out to make up for the lack of support from Metal and Earth. This a great year to learn new skills.
Marriage and partnerships will be tested. Increased sensitivity from the strong Water element can bring misunderstandings which can easily blow out of proportion. Be sure to be completely calm and clear with your communication. Enhance love by offering each other praise and approaching important discussions with openness and understanding.
I CHING READING FOR 2023
I consulted the I Ching for further guidance on the energy of the year. The resulting guas were Xun - Proceeding Humbly which contained changing lines for further guidance from Gen - Keeping Still. I feel like this guidance really fits in with the other readings above - collaborate, move gently, and enjoy new beginnings.
HEXAGRAM 57 - XUN - PROCEEDING HUMBLY
Proceeding Humbly
Little prosperity and smoothness.
Favorable to have somewhere to go.
Favorable to see a great person.
The image of this gua is Wind over Wind with yielding yin lines below, and yang lines above. This hexagram gives the guidance to flow with ease wherever the wind blows, when wind blows softly, it goes everywhere. Try to emulate this in your life this year, proceeding with humility and gentleness for the most effective and far-reaching outcomes. A gentle wind is never harsh, so it is easily accepted.
Changing 2nd 9 - A yang element in a yin place represents a person of sincerity and honesty. For those that are humble and devoted, good fortune awaits as there is no fault.
Changing 5th 9 - Being steadfast and upright brings good fortune and regret vanishes. In this case, firmness and strength will cause problems, it is better to bring gentleness. Duke of Zhau suggests before intending to make a change, consider it for 3 days. After the change is made, reconsider it for another 3 days. Then regret will vanish and good fortune will result. Pretty good advice!

This is a sign to put emphasis on sitting in stillness and getting in touch with your intuition. With the control of mind and breath, you will be able to constructively examine your shortcomings, and cultivate inner strength and virtue. This highest state of non-attachment disciplines the mind and spirit to prepare for great progress when the time is right. Start the year off with stillness so that you are ready to accept all opportunities when they come. Following this guidance will indeed bring good luck this year.
